Individuals and families who need advice or information can participate in a Virtual Financial Aid Night hosted by Admissions on Tuesday, Nov. 23; Wednesday, Dec. 8; and Thursday, Dec. 16. They are invited to talk with a Financial Aid Representative to discuss scholarships, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, generous financial aid packages, and more.
The virtual sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. (ET). Reservations are required. VU Admissions counselors can be reached by phone at 812-888-4313 and email at vuadmit@vinu.edu.
VU is also holding College Goal Sunday events at the Vincennes Campus and Jasper Campus on Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. (ET).
Financial aid professionals will provide free FAFSA filing help to college-bound students and their families. Most colleges, universities, and vocational/technical schools throughout the U.S. require students seeking federal financial aid, including grants and loans, to complete the FAFSA.
The Vincennes Campus College Goal Sunday event is at Updike Hall: Center for Science, Engineering, and Mathematic SEM Learning Lab, Room 132, 1251 N. Chestnut St. The VU Jasper event is in the Jasper Campus Classroom Building. A complete list of sites is available at CollegeGoalSunday.org.
Students should attend College Goal Sunday with their parent(s) or guardian(s), and parents should bring completed 2020 IRS 1040 tax returns, W-2 Forms, and other 2020 income and benefits information. Students who worked should bring their income information as well. Students age 24 or older may attend alone and should bring their own completed 2020 IRS 1040 tax return, W-2 Form, or other 2020 income and benefits information. Students and parent(s) are encouraged to apply for their U.S. Department of Education FSA IDs at studentaid.gov before the event. Volunteers will walk through the online form line-by-line and answer families’ individual questions as needed. All sites offer FAFSA online capabilities, and many have Spanish interpreters.
Making a college education affordable and accessible is at the foundation of VU’s mission. Reducing financial barriers will help more students fulfill their dreams of obtaining a college degree.
VU is the lowest-priced residential college in Indiana, and it has the state’s second-lowest tuition rates.
The University extended its pledge to ensure a college education is within reach and announced last month it is further expanding its support of students and families affected by the pandemic and other current challenges by offering additional scholarships to students. VU is continuing its Residential Opportunity Scholarships for Vincennes Campus students to help make a VU education even more accessible for students and families. Newly admitted students in 2022-23 will receive up to $2,500 per year, for a total of up to $5,000.
Last spring, VU reduced the cost of attendance for a student living on campus by as much as 28 percent through Residential Opportunity Scholarships.
