The Indiana Coalition of Animal Welfare Professionals alongside dozens of shelters and rescue organizations across the State of Indiana are coming together to once again recognize November 2025 as “Hoosier Adopt a Shelter Pet Month,” for the third year running! This initiative brings awareness to the public problem of pet homelessness and the crisis shelters and rescues are facing.

The event will be held Thursday, November 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Schergens Center located at 1140 31st Street in Tell City.
The VHS was the first organization in the area to introduce Pet Pictures with Santa in 1986. Next year will mark its 40th anniversary!

This year’s designees were selected by the Indiana Department of Education, in collaboration with the Indiana National Guard, and includes 80 newly-designated Purple Star Schools, in addition to 19 schools that renewed their designation.
