USO Indiana Celebrates 100 Years of Indiana Air National Guard

Celebration event to commemorate 100 years of military aviation in Indiana

USO Indiana will celebrate 100 years of Military Aviation in Indiana along with the 181st Intelligence Wing at the Hulman Field Air National Guard Base in Terre Haute on September 11, 2021.  The 181st Intelligence Wing will host a family-friendly celebration with games, prizes, food, and music open to current and former Indiana Air National Guard Members and families.

“We are deeply honored to be part of this milestone event for the Indiana Air National Guard and recognize the men and women that keep our nation secure through military aviation,” said Mike Hanlon, Executive Director, USO Indiana, “As we reflect on 9/11, it serves as a reminder of the freedom we can so often and easily take for granted. And it serves as a time to honor those who made sacrifices that day and those who continue to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.”

The Indiana National Guard Aviation Division began on August 1, 1921, with a squadron established at Fagley Field in Kokomo, Indiana.  The service members throughout the nation and the Indiana Air National Guard rise to every challenge our country asks them to face, whether mobilized on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic throughout Indiana or deployed to missions overseas.

The event at Hulman Field Air National Guard Base on Sept. 11, takes place from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will feature static displays of the legendary P-51 and 122 FW A-10 Warthog.  Some of the activities planned include:

  • Children’s activities 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
  • Family activities 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • No cost lunch from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The children’s activities will include Yoga for Littles, Rock Painting, Build-an-Animal, and more.  There will be bounce houses provided by the USO, a corn hole tournament, and opportunities for families to participate in the Bob Hope Legacy Reading Program at the ceremonial event that commemorates 100 years of military aviation in Indiana.

USO programming provides the care, comfort, and connection through a multitude of services and entertainment offered at its 250 centers around the world, including 5 locations throughout Indiana, and its fleet of mobile USOs.
