USI’s College Achievement Program awarded NACEP reaccreditation

CAP is a cooperative program between the University and participating high schools which allows highly motivated high school juniors and seniors to take college courses in their own high schools and earn dual, or concurrent credit.

The University of Southern Indiana College Achievement Program (CAP), the University’s dual-credit program, has been awarded reaccreditation from the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP). The reaccreditation will begin with the 2020-21 academic year and last for seven years.

"The University of Southern Indiana has demonstrated to its peers that the college courses it offers in high schools are of the same high quality as college courses offered on campus," said Dr. Diana Johnson, 2019-20 Chair of NACEP's Accreditation Commission.

CAP was one of 116 concurrent enrollment partnerships nationwide accredited through NACEP's extensive peer-review process this year.

CAP is a cooperative program between the University and participating high schools which allows highly motivated high school juniors and seniors to take college courses in their own high schools and earn dual, or concurrent credit.

USI currently offers 35 courses through CAP, they are taught in 30 area high schools with 2,370 students currently enrolled. CAP courses are taught by carefully selected high school faculty who are trained in special workshops by USI faculty members. The CAP courses follow the same curriculum and academic standards as those courses offered on campus.

USI has been a member organization of NACEP since 2001, and the College Achievement Program was the 13th program in the nation to attain NACEP accreditation in 2006. Accreditation from the NACEP ensures that the high school courses offered meet the same high standards as the courses at their sponsored university.

CAP was reaccredited previously in 2013 and applies for accreditation every seven years. For more information about CAP, contact Erin McCracken Merris, Marketing Specialist for USI Outreach and Engagement, at emccracken@usi.edu.
