A ribbon cutting unveiling the Little Free Pantry will take place on 11/19/25 at 3:30 PM, located at the B. Gene Aurand Trailhead, 715 IN-662, Newburgh, Indiana, 47630.
A new Little Free Pantry will be installed in Newburgh, offering round-the-clock access to non-perishable food items for local families in need. The pantry was donated by a recently retired Girl Scout troop that completed the project as the capstone to their community service journey. When the troop’s project began, they quickly agreed to help food insecurity in the Newburgh and Evansville area where they lived. The girls researched and fundraised until they were able to purchase the pantry and worked with Newburgh’s Town Council to have it installed in a place where it could be useful for the community.
The troop’s goal was simple: create an accessible, stigma-free resource to help neighbors facing food insecurity.
The Little Free Pantry operates on a “Take what you need, leave what you can” model and is open to everyone. Community members are encouraged to donate shelf-stable foods. The installation reflects the troop’s lasting commitment to kindness, service, and leadership—values that remain at the heart of Girl Scouts.
