How Fields of Dreams Uganda (FoDU) is Changing Lives!
What does it mean to run? It is a question I ask myself every time I step outside for my daily run. Running means so much more than just working out or buying cute athletic wear. I started running to give myself a purpose when I felt left out or bored. Running helped me discover a new purpose. Giving back to others.
In early October my mom had asked me to run a 5k with her. I agreed because I had been spending a lot of time working on improving my running. When we arrived I discovered so much more. The 5k was hosted by FoDu or Field of Dreams Uganda. FoDU’s mission is to “provide hope, empowerment, and a future for the vulnerable children of Uganda through the vehicles of soccer and education”. They believe the power of playing a sport can create a lasting impact on a child's life. Not only does FoDU create a safe environment for athletics, they also strive to provide Uganda children with an education.
FoDU’s quality of education is the primary source to eliminate children living in poverty.
During 2013-2014 members from Field of Dreams Uganda took their first mission trip to deliver hygiene kits. These kits changed lives for the children of Uganda especially for teenage girls.
They continued to work with their five founding schools in Gulu, Bungatira Primary School. Gulu PTC Demonstration Primary School, Koro Primary School, Laroo Primary School, and Pageya Primary School. After providing sports and education their strong work didn’t end there. FoDU began highlighting musical passions and talents the children became interested in.
For years FoDU worked tirelessly to provide children with every opportunity they dreamed of. Listening to the incredible stories really moved me. I had a great time participating in this 5k. I loved having the opportunity to learn more about how I can help support FoDU and their awesome mission. I highly recommend running a race with Field of Dreams Uganda!
