Encounter Church is hosting a Fat Tuesday Gumbo Grab, with all proceeds benefiting Evansville non-profit organization Foster Care In The U.S. Inc.
Through Saturday, Feb. 26, pre-orders are open for single and family servings of delicious homemade gumbo featuring real Creole spices, palm-sized Gulf Coast shrimp, spicy Andouille sausage, chicken, and vegetables. Meals will include fried sweet cornbread and a choice of gumbo with or without seafood. Pre-orders must be picked up on Fat Tuesday, March 1, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Encounter Church, 317 Main St., Evansville, IN 47708.
Proceeds from the Fat Tuesday Gumbo Grab will help Foster Care In The U.S. Inc. finish renovating its first permanent supportive housing facility for homeless and foster care youth ages 18-24. Offering seven beds and a room for pregnant and parenting youth, the home — the first of its kind in Evansville — will shelter youth enrolled in Foster Care In The U.S.’ Exits To Success program. Completion on the home, located at
23 E. Columbia St. in Evansville, is expected in spring 2022.
“Our commitment to ensuring that youth and young adults in our community have a place to call home is our top priority,” Foster Care In The U.S. Inc. Executive Director Jessica Angélique says. “Working with this vulnerable population has shown us the true need for dedicated housing and supportive services in Evansville.”
12-ounce single-serving pre-orders of gumbo cost $15; 32-ounce family servings cost $25. Orders of 15 or more at the same location will be delivered for free.
