As a lover of Mexican cuisine, I am often on the hunt for the perfect burrito. And let's be real, not all burritos are created equal. Living in the tri-state area, I have had my fair share of burritos from various restaurants. Some have been disappointing, while others have left me in pure bliss. So, I am excited to share with you my top picks for the best burritos in the tri-state area. But before we dive in, let's establish some ground rules. First and foremost, a great burrito must have quality ingredients, from protein to rice, beans, and toppings, and it NEEDS to be seasoned well. Secondly, the burrito should be well-constructed, with a balance of flavors and textures in each bite. Not half of it is creamy and the other side is spicey, with one coherent flavor profile throughout. Also, we are kind of including chains this time because I simply want to. They are not any big chains though and are all locally owned. Finally, the size of the burrito matters it should be filling but not overwhelming. With those criteria in mind, let's get to the list of the top burritos in the tri-state area.
#3 Jalisco | 4044 Professional Ln, Newburgh, IN
I live about 5 minutes away from this establishment, so this might be a little biased. However, their steak wet burrito is phenomenal! The steak is not super chewy like other places I’ve been to. The cheese isn’t too heavy so the tortilla still stays together. The unique thing about this burrito is that they also smother it with taco sauce along side the cheese which adds a great texture and flavor to the entire burrito.
#2 - La Campirana | 724 N Burkhardt Rd, Evansville, IN
This is 1,000% the most authentic Mexican on my list. The use of fresh ingredients comes out heavily in this burrito. The tomatoes and pico taste like something straight from a movie. The chicken is always grilled and seasoned to perfection with a little bit of toast to the tortilla as well. You pair this with one of their homemade in-house salsas and you are in for a treat. P.S. This spot also has an even more authentic and very good food truck that I recommend you check out.
#1 - Hot Head | 5625 Pearl Dr, Evansville, IN
This place has it all! The customization is what puts this at one. A lot of times more options mean poorer quality but not at Hot Head. Their multiple sauces and salsas set them apart along with their amazing vegetable options. You can enjoy your burrito here dry or wet OR grilled. Hot Head will grill your burrito and it seems so simple but it makes a big difference. Every single burrito place big and small needs to market grilling your burrito as Hot Head does.
