What a ride it has been! It seems like our first day as freshmen was centuries ago. The senior class of 2021 is finishing up classes and tying the loose ends of their high school experience as they prepare for college and beyond. I don’t know about you, but when I look back at the last four years, I think of a thousand little tidbits of knowledge I’ve learned. (No, not the “in 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue” kind of knowledge.) I think of the greatest life lessons I’ve come to know. Lately, I’ve started asking myself “If I could give my freshman self advice, what would it be?”
- New experiences are always scary at the start but always worth it in the end. My prime example being my WPSR family! I remember sitting in a classroom full of other nervous, quiet students...little did I know I would find so many friends!
- Expect the unexpected! I never would have imagined, even in my wildest dreams, that I would get to be on the radio my senior year. I expected my final year of high school to be the same as the last three: boring and familiar. This year, we’ve gone live on the station, learned so much about music, and created podcasts and mini-films. I never ever would have thought I’d do that in my lifetime, let alone in high school!
- Of course, there will always be tough times. High school is one of the most confusing times in a person’s life; foreign experiences happen every day. But if you stick with what you love, you’ll make it out alive. Find time to have fun with your friends! Listen to Livin’ On A Prayer every day! Eat a lot of pizza! If you do the things that make your heart soar, the tough times won’t seem so tough.
