Whether it was a stack of DVDs placed on a shelf, a Playbill given to you by front house staff before a production, or a crinkled concert ticket tucked into your phone case for memories, they weren’t just meaningless objects. They were proof. Proof that you were there, that you listened and watched, that you experienced something genuine. But as technology keeps evolving, those physical relics are slowly fading away and being replaced by digital versions that live on screens instead of in our rooms.

Streaming has completely changed the way we listen to music and watch things. Instead of flipping through CD cases or carefully placing a vinyl on a turntable, we tap a screen and instantly access millions of songs. It’s convenient, fast, and honestly amazing, but something gets lost in that convenience. When music becomes something you can scroll past in seconds, it can start to feel less permanent. You don’t “own” an album anymore, you just borrow it from a platform like Spotify or Apple Music. There’s no scratched disc, no physical reminder that this music once meant enough for you to hold onto and cherish it.

The same thing is happening in theater and live events. Playbills, which used to be treasured keepsakes from a night out, are now sometimes replaced with digital programs you scan on your phone. To me, it changes the experience. Playbills aren’t just information, they are souvenirs. Capturing a specific moment in time. A digital file doesn’t feel the same. It’s harder to revisit, easier to forget, and doesn’t carry the same emotional weight.

Even photos, which used to live in albums or shoeboxes, now sit in endless camera rolls. So easily forgotten and buried behind thousands of memories. All stored in one place, but rarely printed or physically displayed. There’s something different about holding a photo versus swiping past it. Physical photos demand attention. Digital ones compete with everything else on your screen.

Technology isn’t the villain here though, it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do: make life easier and more efficient. And there are real benefits. Digital media is more accessible, more affordable, and takes up zero physical space. You can carry your entire music library, photo collection, and favorite shows in your pocket. That’s powerful. But in gaining that convenience, we’re losing the tangible connection we once had with the things we loved.

What’s really disappearing isn’t just the objects themselves, but the rituals that came with them. Putting on a record, collecting Playbills after every show, concerts, at home movie nights, these were experiences, not just actions. They required time and intention. Now, everything is instant. And while that’s efficient, it can also make experiences feel less special.

That doesn’t mean physical media is completely gone. Vinyl records are making a comeback, and some people still collect CDs or print photos. There’s a growing appreciation for things you can actually hold, especially in a world that feels increasingly digital. It’s almost like a quiet pushback, a reminder that not everything needs to live online.

In the end, technology isn’t erasing memories, it's just changing how we store them. But maybe the challenge now is making sure those memories still feel real. Because sometimes, the things that meant the most weren’t just what we experienced, they were what we could hold onto afterward.

Some songs don’t just play—they transport you. Discover how the music on 90.7 WPSR can turn everyday moments into cinematic experiences you won’t forget.

Some songs are not just good; they can transport you to an amazing place and feel like something bigger. Like a scene unfolding, a story playing out, or a memory you didn’t even know you ever had. Here at 90.7WPSR, we believe that’s one of the best parts about music, finding those tracks that not only play in your ears, but play in your mind like a movie.

You know the kind of songs I’m talking about. The ones that instantly create this wonderful atmosphere, an amazing shift in setting. Maybe it’s a quiet drive at night, streetlights blurring by as you pass, rain going down your windshield. Maybe it's walking alone with your headphones in, feeling like you’re the main character just for a few minutes. These songs don’t need visuals; they are the visuals.

So this begs the question, what makes a song feel cinematic?

A lot of it comes down to the atmosphere the song creates. It could be layered with multiple instruments that slowly build up, like you’re heading towards some kind of emotional climax. It could be the lyrics that tell a story, striking you in such a way that you can’t forget it. Sometimes it’s not even the lyrics at all, but the tone created within the song, the way the sound surrounds you and sends you away.

Think about those songs that start off slow and almost mysterious, then suddenly expand into something much more, something powerful. That shift feels like a plot twist you never expected or a turning point in a movie. Even the songs that stay minimal and haunting the entire time, like a quiet tension before something big happens. These songs create this vibe that just sucks you in and keeps you there.

What’s interesting is that everyone “sees” something different when they hear a song. One track might feel like a heartbreak scene to someone, while another might be seen as a moment of growth. That’s the beauty of music itself, everyone has their own personal interpretation, and I think that’s something beautiful.

At 90.7WPSR, this is the kind of music that shows up all the time. Especially, since our DJs have the freedom to play what they’re passionate about. We play tracks that take risks and aren’t always mainstream. Our station is a perfect place to discover music that could be your next immersive listening experience.

There’s also something special about hearing songs on the radio instead of finding them yourself. When a DJ plays a track at just the right moment, late at night, or maybe you’re in a certain mood, it hits differently. It’s like someone sharing this experience with you, and all you have to do is step into it.

In a way, songs like these remind us why music matters so much. It’s not just entertainment, it’s not just music, it's an experience. It can change the mood of the room, how you think, and even how you see the world around you, if only for a few blissful minutes.

So next time you’re listening to 90.7WPSR, keep a keen ear out, pay attention to the songs that make you stop and think just for a bit, or the ones that seem to transport you somewhere else, somewhere special. Those are not just songs, they’re stories, moments, memories, waiting to be lived out in your mind.

Who knows? Your next listen might just be your favorite movie without ever needing a screen.

School is supposed to be a place where students learn, grow, and discover who they are. But for many teens, it can feel like a constant competition to be perfect. Whether it’s getting straight A’s, being involved in multiple activities, or maintaining a certain image, the pressure to meet high expectations can become overwhelming.

One major source of this pressure comes from expectations, both from others and ourselves. Parents, teachers, and even peers often encourage success, which isn’t a bad thing. However, when success is only measured by grades or achievements, it can make students feel like anything less than perfect is a failure. Over time, this mindset can lead to stress, anxiety, and even burnout.

Social media adds another layer to this issue. It’s easy to compare yourself to others when all you see are highlight reels of perfect grades, awards, and accomplishments. What’s often hidden is the struggle behind those achievements. This constant comparison can make students feel like they’re not doing enough, even when they’re already trying their best.

Another problem with perfectionism is the fear of failure. When students feel like they must be perfect, they may avoid taking risks or trying new things. They might stick to what they know they’re good at instead of exploring new interests. This limits growth, because mistakes are actually an important part of learning. Without failure, there’s no opportunity to improve or build resilience.

It’s important to remember that perfection isn’t realistic. No one is perfect, no matter how it may seem. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and that’s completely normal. Instead of focusing on being perfect, students should aim for progress. Doing your best and learning from mistakes is far more valuable than achieving flawless results.

Schools and communities can also help reduce this pressure by encouraging a healthier mindset. Celebrating effort, creativity, and improvement, rather than just outcomes, can make a big difference. Teachers can remind students that their worth isn’t defined by a grade, and parents can support their children by valuing balance and well-being.

At the end of the day, school is just one part of life. It’s important, but it doesn’t define who you are. Letting go of the need to be perfect can open the door to a more balanced, less stressful, and more fulfilling experience. Being human means making mistakes, learning, and growing—and that’s something worth embracing.

https://www.wpsrhd.com/blogs/station-blogs/post/how-to-light-a-cinematic-interview-with-limited-equipment/
How to Light a Cinematic Interview With Limited Equipment
2026-04-06T16:30:00+00:00
You don't need a Hollywood lighting setup to make an interview look like it belongs on Netflix. I've been shooting interviews for a couple of years now, and most of them have been done with just one or two lights. Here's how I approach it every time.

Start with your key light

Everything starts here. Your key light is your main source, and it should be placed slightly off to one side of your subject. Not directly in front of them, but not fully to the side either. That slight angle is what creates dimension and makes the shot feel cinematic instead of flat. If you only have one light, this is the one. A single key light alone can look surprisingly good if it's placed right.

Camera placement matters just as much

Once your key is set, I put my A camera straight in front of the subject, and then my B camera goes on the opposite side from the key light. That angle from the B cam naturally catches more shadow and dimension, which gives you a totally different look to cut between. Also, position your camera as far back as possible. The farther back you are, the better your focal length and aperture can work together to compress the background and get that shallow depth of field that makes everything look high-end.

Add light to your background

A backlit backdrop makes a massive difference. Even a cheap light pointed at the wall behind your subject adds depth and separates them from the background. I also like throwing some RGB lights behind the subject to add a color element. Even a subtle color cast back there can take an interview from looking like a YouTube video to looking like a Netflix doc.

The hair light

If you want to take it a step further, add a hair light. This one goes on the opposite side from your B camera, positioned slightly above and behind your subject. It creates a rim of light on their hair and shoulders that separates them from the background and adds a really clean cinematic feel. It's one of those details that people might not notice consciously, but they'll feel it. Make the whole thing cinematic, not just the light.

The background you choose matters. Think about what's in frame. A boring white wall is going to look boring regardless of how good your lighting is. Put something interesting back there, or at least add some depth with distance and light. And ask cinematic questions. The way someone responds changes completely when you're asking them something that actually draws something out of them instead of a surface-level answer. The whole frame, the light, the location, and the conversation all work together. You don't need a big budget. You just need to understand what each light is doing and why.

Has the art of Tiktok undermined the art of music? We’ve entered the era of the two-minute pop song, where the normal structure of verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus has been stripped down to its barest essentials.. And that is what's called "TikTok-ification" songwriting. A phenomenon from the widely known app Tiktok where your favorite song may be found in 30-40 second video. I personally have noticed how in those short videos usually the chorus of a song is played. But the debate remains: are songs getting shorter because our brains are physically incapable of focusing for longer than a 30 second short or is the music industry simply playing a high-stakes game of "optimization" against social media algorithms? It’s easy to say us as people have the attention span of a goldfish, but is there actually any truth to that ? Well actually there is some truth to it ! Due to the constant rush from scrolling, short-form video content has made us adapt to the modern day rapid-fire transitions. TikTok’s algorithm rewards completion rates and re-watches. If a song is short, catchy, and ends abruptly, a user is more likely to let it loop while reading comments or filming a video which can also push similar videos to that individual's “for you” page. Usually for these 15-30 second audios the bridge(the section that usually provides emotional lyrics/meaning) is the first thing that is cut..Some songwriters are now writing specifically for these 15-to-30-second audios, hoping a specific snippet becomes a viral meme. Some people say this trend is "ruining" music while others see it as a new evolution of the art form. I believe that short songs aren't necessarily bad; they are simply a condensed version of the original song. Our attention spans might be shorter but they are also more selective. Though I believe they are not bad, I will say there is a concern on the emotional aspect/journey of it all. Music has historically been used as an outlet for emotion and releasing any tension you may have. When songs are built as "loop-able" assets for background audio, we risk losing that narrative journey. We are moving away from music as an experience and toward music as a utility, a soundtrack for a 15-second clip of someone making iced coffee or performing a dance challenge. There are really two sides to it. One side is the songwriters who thrive within the short videos and their music fit very well like PinkPantheress, Lil Nas X who have both mastered the state of “TikTok-ification” and the there are others who thrive better with their longer songs being played in full like Adele, Bruno Mars, and many more. A great example of it is Taylor Swift. She has topped the charts with a ten-minute version of "All Too Well," showing that audiences will pay attention if the storytelling is compelling enough. At the end of the day I believe that if really all that matters is how well the storytelling is relayed. I have learned that if there is a good story then there is always an audience out there no matter how much of the song we hear.

As we all know, I Lil Treble Clef am a superfan of the Sonic franchise. With the teaser’s phrasing “Your world is in danger” we could be seeing a version of Robotnik from a bad future that he rules, similar to the game Sonic CD. In that story, Sonic travels through time to undo Robotnik’s dystopian future. This isn’t far-fetched either, considering leaked concept art from the third movie hinted at this exact scenario.

Alternatively, it’s possible this is Neo Metal Sonic impersonating Robotnik, as he does in Sonic Heroes. I’m personally leaning toward the bad future route, but I’d love to see it be Neo Metal.

Overall, I’m incredibly excited to see what this movie brings to the table. The budget and stakes just keep getting bigger and bigger. With marketing starting this early and a rumored IMAX release, I’d say the best of the Blue Blur on the big screen is just around the corner.

Boredom usually gets a bad wrap. The second we feel it creeping in, we reach for anything to fill the noise, our phones, music, videos, anything. We live in a world where we have gotten used to constant stimulation that even a few minutes of doing nothing can feel uncomfortable. It’s like we’ve trained ourselves to believe that every second needs to be productive, entertaining, or at the least distracting.

What if boredom isn’t actually something to avoid? What if it’s been something we’ve been missing? I can speak for myself here when I say some of the most creative ideas do not come when your mind is busy, they come when you have time to breathe. When nothing is immediately gripping at your attention, your mind starts to wonder. You think about things you normally wouldn’t. Random thoughts and ideas connect. Small thoughts turn into bigger ones. That’s when the creativity starts to build.

Think about it, how often do you get your best ideas out when you’re doom scrolling through your phone? Probably not that often, but when you’re just sitting there, staring out the window or laying in your room with nothing to do, that’s when your mind starts creating instead of consuming.

Boredom forces you to sit in your own thoughts, and while that can feel strange at first, it’s actually important. It gives you a chance to reflect, to process things, and figure out what is actually going on in your mind beneath all the noise. It’s also where a lot of passions begin. When you’re bored, you start looking for something to do. Maybe you can pick up a guitar (that’s what I do). Maybe you start writing something random. Maybe try filming something on your phone just to pass the time. At first, it’s just a way to escape boredom, but over time, it grows into something much more. Something you actually care about and fall in love with.

A lot of creative people didn’t start because they were told to, they started because they had nothing else to do. That’s something we don’t talk about enough. We’re always told to stay busy, stay productive, keep moving, but constantly filling every moment doesn’t leave lots of room for originality. If your brain is always focused on what is in front of you, it never gets the chance to explore what could be.

Boredom doesn’t always feel good. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable. Sometimes it makes time feel slower, but that’s kind of the point. It slows everything down just enough for you to notice things you would typically ignore. In a way, boredom gives you control back. Instead of reacting to whatever is thrown at you, notifications, videos, endless content, you get to decide what to do next without all the noise of today’s world. You get to create instead of consume and that is such an important thing everyone needs to understand.

So next time you feel bored, don’t immediately try to escape it. Sit with it for a minute. Let your mind wander a little and see where it takes you. You might be surprised what you come up with. Becomes sometimes, exactly what you need is nothing to start something that’s meaningful and originally yours.

https://www.wpsrhd.com/blogs/station-blogs/post/dj-smiles-vibes-review-kiss-all-the-time-disco-occasionally/
DJ Smiles' Vibes Review: Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally
2026-03-13T18:44:55+00:00
Check out what DJ Smiles thinks of Harry Styles' newest release! Is it a smashing success or a total flop?

From the very first listen, Harry Styles’ newest album, Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally, immediately stood out to me, for so many unique reasons. It wasn’t super loud or dramatic, but intentional and meaningful. Obviously, the production is smooth and confident, placing every sound exactly where it needed to be. Instead of chasing to be the next big, generic pop song, the album took a different approach. While keeping that modern pop feel we all know, it blends with retro influences that make the entire album feel natural.
What I truly loved most about the album was how relaxed the album was to listen to, even for the first time. There’s not any sense of urgency or rush in the sounds; it’s easy to follow and play on repeat. The soft guitars and steady drums create a carefree atmosphere that pulls you in without demanding all of your attention. Some of the tracks feel like they’re meant to be played with the windows down and the wind blowing on a hot summer day, like “Pop” and “Ready, Steady, Go!” Yet, others sound more intimate, where it feels like they’re meant to be listened to with headphones on, late at night. “Coming Up Roses” and “Paint By Numbers” are the only two songs where his voice can be clearly heard over the music, yet the two still fit right into the album cohesively. Even though the songs are all unique, they flow seamlessly from one track to the next. The balance between the upbeat and more mellow songs keeps the album engaging, making it easy for the listener to go from one song to the next without feeling tired of the sound.
The production not only highlights the new sound of Harry Styles, but how much he has truly grown since his first studio album. Rather than relying on huge moments and loud sounds, many of the songs are built on grooves and texture, allowing for the rhythm to carry the emotion. After giving the album more listening time, I found myself listening to the subtle beat shifts, backing vocals supporting without overpowering, and how certain instruments fade in and out to shift the mood of the song. His vocals feel more controlled and intentional, easily blending into the music instead of simply sitting on top of it. This stylistic approach makes the album feel polished and clean, yet still personal and made specifically for each listener.
By the time that the album ended, I understood why the sound stuck with me long after the music stopped. There’s a strong, yet quiet confidence strung throughout the entire album; it’s not trying to prove anything to anyone, but instead it already knows exactly what it is. The smooth transitions, cohesive production, and consistent tone makes the entire album feel less like a collection of singles but a whole listening experience. For me, the sound of Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally feels comforting but not boring, familiar yet still fresh. It’s music that doesn’t rush you through it, but invites you to slow down with it, making it memorable not because it demands attention, but because it earns it.

Drones have come a long way, but not all drones are built the same. Whether you are chasing cinematic shots or full-speed thrills, here is a breakdown of the two main types and what makes each one worth flying.

I have been flying drones for about three years now, and recently I just picked up my first FPV drone. Going from a camera drone to an FPV is a pretty big shift, and it got me thinking about how different these two types really are. If you have ever been curious about the difference, here is what you need to know.

Camera Drones:

A camera drone, such as my DJI Mini 3, is designed for smooth, high-quality footage. These drones are stable, easy to fly, and equipped with smart features such as obstacle avoidance, GPS hold, and automated shot modes. The camera stays level with the horizon, which makes it incredibly beginner-friendly. For price, a solid starter option like the Mini 3 runs around $500 to $700, depending on the package, and you get great 4K video out of the box.

FPV Drones:

FPV stands for First Person View. Instead of watching your drone from the ground, you wear goggles that put you directly in the perspective of the drone. It feels less like operating a device and more like actually flying. The DJI Avata 2, which I recently picked up, is a great beginner-friendly FPV option that still shoots excellent footage. FPV drones are built for speed and agility, capable of hitting 60 to 100 mph and flying through tight spaces in ways a camera drone simply cannot. A setup like the Avata 2 with goggles runs around $1,000 to $1,100.

Shot Types and Video Quality:

Camera drones are perfect for slow, sweeping landscapes, real estate footage, and smooth tracking shots. The footage is clean and color-accurate straight out of the drone. FPV footage has a totally different feel, fast, immersive, and cinematic in an action-forward way. FPV drones film aggressive banking turns and low-altitude flythroughs that look almost like a movie scene. Both produce great quality video, just with a very different style.

Which One Is Right for You?

If you are just starting out, go with a camera drone without a doubt. They are more forgiving, easier to learn on, and great for building real flying skills. Once you are comfortable, FPV is an incredibly rewarding next step. I recommend starting in a flight simulator to get the hang of the difference. Neither is better than the other. They just serve different purposes, and after flying both, I can say that having each one brings something completely different to the table.

In this blog, Kiyah talks about how music has an influence on the moods of people and how it is much more than just a few music notes !

Music has become a big part of many people’s lives throughout time. From Thomas Edison’s phonograph to music streaming platforms on electronic devices (phones, computers, tablets, etc) music has changed how we feel about many things. When I was younger I used to think I just liked music because it had a catchy tone and they sounded good, but as I got older I learned that there was so much more to music than that. Music is an outlet for our emotions and helps us express ourselves through our favorite songs or artists. As I got older I started to realize that I wasn’t just listening to music but I was also seeing it match the way I felt in each moment. The more I observed, the more I realized music doesn’t just match my moods, it amplifies them. On happy days, I listen to high-energy songs that make everything feel happy and energized! Artists like Katy Perry and Bruno Mars instantly boost my happiness level. But on quieter nights, when everything feels more sad, I turn to artists like Conan Gray or Selena Gomez .Sometimes when I feel as though I can’t explain my feelings there is a song out there that can. That is the beauty of music. The undoubtable fact that there is at least one or more songs that resonate with most people if not all is what makes music seem so natural and humane. One song that resonates with me is “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars.I resonate with that song because it talks about self-reassurance and acceptance towards someone because they are naturally beautiful. It explains how one doesn't have to change themself because they are naturally beautiful and unique to one’s authentic self! Some people use music as a type of help when they feel they can’t tell others how they are feeling. Now looking back I can see how my music taste has changed as I’ve grown. There were phases in my life where I only listened to certain genres and didn’t easily branch out, now I find myself exploring different sounds and artists just to get all the exposure I can in the music industry. Some songs feel like time capsules reminders of who I used to be. Others feel like soundtracks to who I’m becoming. Music isn’t just entertainment. It’s part of my identity. The biggest realization is that music isn’t background noise. It’s emotional direction. It can make me more productive, more confident, or more observant. It can turn an ordinary walk into a movie scene in my head. A casual listening party can turn into a movie of memories that remind you of each song on that playlist. It’s helped me process feelings I didn’t even know I was carrying. Music is much more than just some notes and words, it is a reflection of ourselves that shapes the deep feelings we have in the moment. Maybe I don’t always understand why I feel the way I do, but my playlist usually does. And once I realized that, I stopped seeing music as just something I enjoy and started seeing it as something that quietly shapes who I am one song at a time.

Each year on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss Day, officially known as Read Across America Day, invites students, educators, and families to celebrate the transformative power of reading. While it may appear as a lighthearted tribute to whimsical rhymes and fantastical creatures, Dr. Seuss Day is, in fact, a significant cultural and educational event, grounded in advancing literacy, creativity, and community engagement.

At its foundation, Dr. Seuss Day is an institutional effort to promote early literacy. Decades of educational research underscore the correlation between childhood reading habits and future academic achievement. Dr. Seuss’s inventive use of rhyme, rhythm, and playful language makes reading approachable for young audiences, lowering barriers to literacy and supporting critical language acquisition skills. By engaging children in joyful reading experiences, the event fosters a positive association with books and cultivates lifelong learners.

Beyond literacy, Dr. Seuss Day champions creative thinking, a cornerstone of cognitive development. The author’s surreal landscapes and imaginative characters encourage children to explore divergent thinking, a process vital for innovation and problem-solving in all disciplines. Schools often leverage this day to inspire creative writing, art, and performance, underscoring the interdisciplinary value of imagination in education.

Furthermore, Dr. Seuss Day fosters community through shared literary experiences. Reading together, whether in classrooms or at home, builds empathy and social cohesion. Dr. Seuss’s stories frequently address universal themes of kindness, environmentalism, and perseverance, providing an entry point for meaningful discussions about ethical and civic responsibility.

In sum, Dr. Seuss Day is far more than a celebration of one beloved author. It is a nationwide affirmation of the importance of reading, the necessity of creativity, and the power of collective engagement. In a rapidly evolving world, these are foundational skills and values. As we read, reflect, and imagine together, Dr. Seuss Day reminds us that literacy is not only an academic tool but also a catalyst for personal and societal growth.

Prom 2026 is right around the corner, here are some of my favorite things about prom and some fun expectations too!

I have been to prom twice already, making senior year the third and final dance. Senior prom is a big deal at my high school. Especially among the girls! Whether it’s picking out the BEST dress or what hairstyle to wear prom can be so exciting! My sophomore year dress is honestly one of my favorite prom dresses I have ever worn. I loved it so much I even wore it to a pageant I competed in. I loved my junior prom dress too but it was quite the hassle. The dress was a big silky ball gown. We even added three hooks on the back to help hold up my dress and that still was not enough. Looking back the dress was really pretty but it was also a lot. This year I am extremely excited about my selected dress. I had a blast spending time with my mom when we went dress shopping! Prom dresses can be expensive though. If cost becomes a worry the best places to look are at thrift stores, online, and even at local high schools. A lot of the local high schools in Evansville will spend time on a Saturday selling prom dresses! The entire event is always so much fun and they always have great selections!

Another fun part about prom is the people you go with! From long-awaited
releases to surprise announcements, the industry has been energized by
legendary names reclaiming the spotlight while modern stars continue
to redefine their eras. If January set the tone, February has only
strengthened the argument that 2026 could become one of the most
historic years in recent music history.

January opened strong with the release of Zach Bryan’s highly
anticipated album. Known for his raw storytelling and stripped-down
sound, Bryan once again proved why he stands at the forefront of
country and Americana. His project delivered emotional depth and
authenticity, resonating with fans who connect to his honest
songwriting. The album’s success reaffirmed his role not just as a
country star, but as a generational voice capable of reaching
listeners far beyond one genre.

At nearly the same time, A$AP Rocky ended years of anticipation by
finally releasing his long-delayed album. Rocky’s project contrasted
Bryan’s intimate style with bold, experimental production and sharp
lyricism. Blending fashion-forward creativity with psychedelic beats,
the album reminded fans why Rocky remains such an influential figure
in hip-hop. Rather than relying on nostalgia, he demonstrated growth
and artistic risk-taking, proving that established artists from the
2010s still have the ability to shape the sound of today.

If January belonged to major releases, February has become the month
of major announcements. In a move that surprised fans across social
media, Baby Keem revealed that his third studio album is on the way.
Known for his unpredictable flow and genre-bending production, Keem
has built a reputation for pushing hip-hop in new directions. The
unexpected announcement instantly sparked speculation about what new
creative risks he might take next.

Adding even more momentum to the month were confirmations from two
global superstars: J. Cole and Bruno Mars. Cole hinted that his
upcoming project may be among his most personal and reflective yet.
With a career built on balancing commercial success and introspective
lyricism, any new release from him feels like a cultural event. Bruno
Mars, meanwhile, brings a different kind of excitement. His ability to
fuse pop, R&B, and funk into polished, timeless hits has made him one
of the most consistent entertainers of his generation. News of new
music signals another major moment for mainstream audiences worldwide.

What makes early 2026 feel so significant is the variety of sounds
dominating the conversation. Country, hip-hop, pop, and R&B are all
thriving at once, led by artists who refuse to be boxed into a single
lane. Streaming numbers are climbing, timelines are filled with
reactions, and fans are once again rallying around full-length
projects rather than just singles.

If the first two months are any indication, 2026 will not be a quiet
year. WPSR makes the magic happen every day.

In a world where music is just one tap away, and playlists are built by algorithms, there’s something special, something electric, about turning on the radio and knowing there’s a real person behind the microphone.

That’s what makes 90.7 WPSR so special, that’s what makes radio so special, the personality and humanity of it all. At 90.7 WPSR, we’re not just pressing play, but building moments and getting you through your day. Whether you’re driving to school, work, having a late-night study, hanging out with friends, or just need a reset after a long day, we're here with music, voices, and energy that can connect with everyone.

Streaming services can give you songs, sure, but they can’t laugh with you when something unexpected happens on air, or inject some personality in between listens. They can’t react in real time when a new track drops or when some breaking news comes hot off the press.

Radio gives people that human connection that is ever so dwindling in a space where ai and streaming are slowly taking over.

Here at 90.7 WPSR, every show and every segment is powered by students who care about what they’re playing and who is listening. We curate music not because an algorithm says it’ll trend, but because the music hits for everyone personally. Because it says something and because it feels right. When you tune in, you’re not just listening, you’re one with the moment as a whole.

One of the best things about 90.7 is the variety. From alternative and indie to hip-hop, pop, throwbacks, and even some hidden gems. Our rotation keeps things fresh and unique, so there’s truly something for everyone. You might discover your new favorite artist. You might discover a song you forgot you loved, maybe even hear something completely unexpected, and it becomes your next favorite song. That’s the magic that comes with radio, and I believe it can never ever really be replaced. Whether it’s a chill late night or upbeat afternoon energy boost, 90.7 can always set the vibe.

90.7 isn’t just about the music; it’s about what’s happening. We spotlight school events, community news, and creative projects. The station is a platform where ideas and voices always matter. Being part of 90.7 WPSR means learning how the media works behind the scenes. From production and editing to hosting and underwriting. It’s a hands-on experience that builds confidence, creativity, and communication skills that go way beyond the studio. For listeners, that means authenticity and true personality. You’re hearing people who are passionate, growing, experimenting, and learning, bringing their full personality to the mic.

Music shapes memories and builds special moments for us all. Think about it, certain songs can instantly take you back to a specific time, season, or feeling. Years from now, you could hear and track and think back to when you discovered it on 90.7, and that’s exactly what we’re building here. Not just music, not just shows, but memories. So next time you’re scrolling endlessly trying to find something to listen to, maybe something different. They need resetting. When everything feels loud, overwhelming, slightly off for no clear reason, I know it’s time for a mental reset day. This isn’t about ignoring responsibilities or pretending life isn’t happening. It's about giving my mind space to breathe before burnout sneaks in.

I start by letting go of rushing. On reset days, I don't jump out of bed with ten alarms and a to-do list already judging me. I wake up slowly and remind myself that rest is not a reward, it's a need. Even starting the day calmly changes everything.

Next, I clean one small thing. Not my entire room, not my whole life. Just one area I can control, like my desk or my bed. I stop endless scrolling and mute notifications for a while. The world doesn’t fall apart if I'm offline, and my mind always feels quieter when I give it that space.

Comfort is a big part of my reset. I rewatch a familiar show, listen to music that feels safe, or take a long shower and imagine everything stressful washing away. These moments aren’t productive, but they’re grounding.

One of the most important parts is letting myself feel off without trying to fix it. I don’t demand answers from my emotions. Feeling unmotivated or tired doesn’t mean I’m failing, it means I’m human.

By the end of the day, I reset my expectations. A mental reset day isn’t about becoming a new person overnight. It’s a pause, not a transformation. If I feel even a little bit lighter, that’s enough.

A mental reset day is not about perfection, productivity, or pretending everything is fine. It’s about choosing kindness toward yourself when you need it most, and that choice alone can make all the difference. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is stop, breathe, and simply take care of yourself.

2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for music, with some of the biggest artists in the world officially announcing new albums.

Bruno Mars (Release Date: February 27, 2026)

Anytime Bruno Mars drops an album, it’s an event. As of today, February 6, 2026, the world turns its gaze to Northern Italy as the XXV Olympic Winter Games officially begin. This year’s event, known as Milano Cortina 2026, represents a groundbreaking evolution of the Olympic movement, spread across more than 22,000 square kilometers of breathtaking Italian landscapes. Unlike previous Games centered around a single host city, this iteration utilizes a regional model that connects the high-fashion urban energy of Milan with the rugged, timeless beauty of the Dolomites, creating a unique "dual soul" for the competition. The festivities kick off tonight with an ambitious Opening Ceremony titled "Armonia" meaning Harmony. In a historic first, the spectacle is being staged as a multi-site event while the main show unfolds at Milan’s iconic San Siro Stadium; simultaneous celebrations and athlete parades are taking place in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Livigno, and Predazzo. This synchronized celebration is expected to feature global icons like Andrea Bocelli and Mariah Carey, culminating in the unprecedented lighting of two Olympic cauldrons—one in Milan’s Arco della Pace and another in Cortina’s Piazza Dibona—symbolizing the unity of the host regions.

On the ice and snow, the athletic competition is set to be more inclusive and diverse than ever before. These Games feature a record 116 medal events, including the highly anticipated Olympic debut of Ski Mountaineering (Skimo). The rosters are packed with both legendary veterans and rising phenoms. Alpine skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin returns to chase further records, while the NHL’s biggest stars, led by Connor McDavid, finally make their long-awaited Olympic debut. In figure skating, Ilia Malinin the "Quad God" is poised to redefine the limits of the sport, and freestyle skiing icon Eileen Gu returns at age 22 to defend her titles on the world stage. Beyond the medals, Milano Cortina 2026 is setting a new global standard for environmental and economic responsibility. By utilizing 92% existing or temporary venues, the organizers have prioritized a legacy of sustainability over the construction of "white elephant" stadiums. From the repurposing of the historic 1956 Cortina facilities to the planned conversion of the Olympic Village into student housing, these Games are designed to leave a positive footprint on the Italian Alps. Whether you are a fan of high-speed downhill runs or the grace of the skating rink, the next two weeks promise a masterclass in Italian hospitality and peak human performance. Bobsledding is when you slide down an ice track with two to four other people picking up speed and seeing how fast you can go. Figure skating is one of the most popular events that goes on. It is very gracious and complex movements on ice that consist of lots of high speed skating and turns in a routine together. Skiing is when a person goes down the hill at a high rate of speed and they weave back and fourth around poles while going downhill. Overall I am very excited to watch these upcoming games. Whether it be natural talent in a career, a skill that comes easily, or success it is still the dream that you should seek out. Though I spend my time creating, learning, and trying new things I have started to realize that loving what you do matters far more than being instantly good at it.

Being good at something can bring many opportunities , but it doesn’t always keep the opportunities coming to you. If you don’t enjoy the work, natural talent turns into pressure. Something that feels impressive starts to make you feel burnt out. Some get so afraid to make even the most simple mistakes when doing what they are good at out of fear that it will make them “not good enough” anymore. Loving what you do changes that. When you care deeply about something, failure is a part of the process and you are just doing what you love instead of worrying you aren’t good at it.

Passion gives you strength. When you love an activity, you stick with it longer than someone who’s only doing it because they’re skilled. You practice, you think about it outside of scheduled time, you notice details others overlook and over time, that commitment builds up into skill naturally. Some people who are considered “great” didn’t start out that way, they just developed a passion for whatever activity they became skilled in while some say they were “born for this” and have always felt a connection with said activity.

Some of my favorite examples of both development of passion and feeling like they were “born for this” are WWE wrestlers! Many WWE wrestlers say they have always loved wrestling whether it was a cool match they saw as kids or from the storytelling behind some of WWE’s most popular moments. Some examples of that are AJ Lee, Bayley, and Seth Rollins who are all WWE wrestlers who loved the business growing up. Some WWE wrestlers say they feel they were born for this due to legitimately being born in a generational WWE wrestling family. Some examples of that are Natalya (daughter of Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart), Cody Rhodes (son of Dusty Rhodes), and Randy Orton (son of “Cowboy” Bob Orton) who are WWE nepo babies and come from generations of WWE wrestlers.

Loving what you do also changes your relationship with growth. If you’re only focused on being good, you’re constantly comparing yourself to others and stressing yourself out. You measure progress by awards, numbers, or approval. But when you enjoy the work itself, improvement becomes personal. You celebrate small wins. You notice how far you’ve come instead of how far you have to go. That mindset makes learning healthier and more sustainable.

In the end, being good at something is nice, but loving what you do is powerful. Every year in F1 brings drama, but this upcoming season has that special crackle in the air. The kind that makes fans refresh social feeds a little too often and stare at winter testing photos like they’re ancient prophecy.

One of the biggest things to look forward to is how teams build on last season’s momentum. Some squads finished strong and will be desperate to prove it was no fluke. Others had frustrating years and are arriving with redesigned cars, new philosophies, and a point to prove. In Formula One, progress is never linear. A team can jump from midfield anonymity to podium contention with one clever idea, and that unpredictability is half the magic.

The driver lineup also adds intrigue. Every season feels like a fresh chapter, especially as younger drivers continue to settle in and veterans push back against the idea that their time is up. Development seasons are turning into statement seasons, and we often see drivers take a noticeable leap once confidence and car performance finally align. Watch closely for who starts demanding more from their team radios and who begins showing quiet, consistent brilliance on Sundays.

On track, the racing itself continues to evolve. Cars are closer than ever, and margins are measured in thousandths. That means qualifying sessions are must-watch events rather than warm-ups. One small mistake can drop a driver from the front row to the midfield, completely rewriting their race. Strategy will once again be a chess match at 200 miles per hour, with tire management, safety cars, and bold calls deciding weekends.

Fans should also keep an eye on how teams adapt across the calendar. Street circuits reward precision and bravery, while classic tracks test balance, tire wear, and racecraft. Some cars will shine on high-speed layouts and struggle on tight, technical tracks, creating natural swings in performance that keep the championship alive deep into the season.

Beyond the racing, Formula One’s global energy keeps growing. New fans are pouring in, storylines are louder than ever, and the sport feels firmly planted in pop culture without losing its competitive edge. Race weekends feel like events, not just sporting fixtures, and that atmosphere feeds directly into the intensity on track.

As the season approaches, one thing is certain: nothing is guaranteed. Championships aren’t won on paper, testing times lie, and confidence can evaporate by Turn One. That uncertainty is why we watch. Whether you’re rooting for dominance, underdog heroics, or pure chaos, this F1 season is lining up to deliver.

Music is the universal language that connects us across time, culture, and differences—bringing people together, healing hearts, and reminding us that we’re never truly alone.

It’s all around us, it connects us, it supports us. Music is a major part of many people's lives. It has connected millions of people worldwide and, over time, has been a cultural superpower, bringing people together regardless of their backgrounds, beliefs, or ethnicities. Music truly is for all, and I feel as if that’s definitely one of the many reasons why I fell in love with music.

Especially in times like today, connectedness is so important. Music gives people the chance to come together, feel included, and, overall, promote greater social closeness. There are studies suggesting that playing music or singing together may be a key component in fostering social connectedness, and I agree. When you go to concerts, there are always people singing, laughing, dancing, just being together.

Music is also just such an important outlet in general. It gives people the chance to express themselves and potentially deepen their understanding of themselves. Everyone loves music for their own reasons, and that is another beautiful aspect of it. Music enters people's lives in many ways and at different times in their lives. I know for me personall,y music has been there for me in times where I’ve needed it most. There’s so much music that I listen to, but I appreciate every song for how it resonated with me in those moments of my life. I listen to music every day and love writing and making my own music. It’s such an amazing opportunity music gives to people, the freedom to be oneself and express yourself. There are no rules with music, and that is another reason why music is for everyone. I don't know if the world would be as amazing a place without music. Thankfully, there's such a variety of genres and music styles to choose from that a person is bound to find something they’ll enjoy. There truly is a little bit for everyone; music doesn’t discriminate or hate, it’s just here for everyone at any time.

Music overall is just such an amazing outlet that can promote togetherness regardless of a person's background. It can help people get through everyday life and, in general, just hard times, significantly boosting mental health. Overall, it has multiple benefits. Music is such a powerful thing and I wouldn’t want to live in a world without it, and I’m sure many agree. In today's day and age, connectedness is so important. Music is another big step in the right direction to a world where everyone everywhere accepts one another and supports one another regardless of their backgrounds, and isn’t judged by the color of their skin, but by their character. Without music, the world would be such a bleak, boring place, so maybe this weekend take some time, listen to that album, learn that song, spend time with friends, and listen to your favorite songs because a world without music is a world without togetherness.

https://www.wpsrhd.com/blogs/station-blogs/post/from-classroom-to-studio-seeing-broadcasting-in-the-real-world/
From Classroom to Studio: Seeing Broadcasting in the Real World
2026-01-21T18:56:03+00:00
Come see what the student staff gained from visiting Midwest Communications, the home of some of the area's most popular radio stations! Discussing podcasting, and sound-design!

Sound. It's so important, but for some reason, everyone seems to overlook that. However, personally, I’d rather listen to a podcast or music than watch a show or movie. It's the same for me creatively as well; I seem to excel in audio and fall short in video. I get more enjoyment out of creating all the sounds, recording the voices, and editing them together to make one coherent piece. I haven't tried to make music before, but I’d imagine it's similar; you just feel so good after you’ve created such a unique-sounding work.

Let’s break it down, though. Podcasting is hard work, ask the other staff members at WPSR, they’d all tell you the same. It may seem really simple to the average person, but it involves a lot of preparation – especially in a group setting – you need to take the time to one, come up with an idea, and two, figure out who exactly you're gonna do the podcast with. It’s important to pick someone with whom you can have a conversation; otherwise, you have no structure.

Next on the audio tour is sound design, whoop! Whoop! Basically, this is how the audio in any movie you've ever seen is designed. I know it sounds like that's just how it sounds, but honestly, sometimes the actors in movies didn't make those sounds; the sound design people added it later on in post-production. Sometimes microphones don't pick up the audio needed for the scene, and that's usually why this is done, to add dramatic effect – or music/sounds – when they do this, it makes the movie have a different atmosphere than it did before.

In conclusion, sound can truly change the atmosphere and tone of any story, whether it's just simply audio or a well-produced video; it just wouldn't be as good if audio storytelling as a concept didn't exist. Truthfully, just simply audio wouldn't exist, and that sounds super boring. Imagine a quiet world, with no sound, no laughs, no birds, nothing. Yeah, no thanks, I like it here with sound and audio storytelling!

Join The Frizz with her first lesson! Here she talks about the wackiest things you didn’t know you didn’t know. Our word of the day is allodoxaphobia – the fear of other people’s opinions.

Our word of the day is allodoxaphobia — the fear of other people’s opinions.

At first glance, it might sound a little silly. After all, there seems to be a fear for just about everything: fear of long words, fear of clowns, even fear of bananas (which, honestly, might be more reasonable than it sounds). But allodoxaphobia feels different. It feels familiar. In fact, it may be far more relevant today than most people realize.

At some point in your life — probably around middle or high school — you start to care deeply about what other people think of you. That’s just how society works. Whether we like it or not, caring about others’ opinions is built into our brains. It helps us form relationships, understand social cues, and figure out where we fit in the world. And honestly, that isn’t always a bad thing. Opinions are what make us different from one another. They are what make us unique. If everyone thought the same way about every topic, the world would be bland, predictable, and painfully boring.

That being said, I think a lot of people experience a little bit of allodoxaphobia — not necessarily to an extreme degree, but enough for it to affect how they act, speak, or even think. So why does it matter? What has made us so afraid of other people’s opinions that we’ve given it an official name?

The fear of opinions isn’t simply about being afraid of what someone else thinks. It’s about the fear of being different. As a teenager and a senior in high school myself, I can confidently say that one of my biggest worries throughout high school was standing out in the wrong way. Being different slowly became something negative — something awkward, uncomfortable, or in need of fixing. If you didn’t dress the same, think the same, or agree with the same ideas as everyone else, you were labeled as “other.”

Opinions, especially today, carry more weight than things like fashion choices or music taste. In our current world, having a different opinion can lead to judgment, arguments, exclusion, or even real consequences online and in real life. Social media amplifies this fear, constantly reminding us that our thoughts are visible, shareable, and open to criticism. It’s no surprise that so many people choose silence over honesty just to avoid backlash.

Yet, being different is essential. It is vital to who we are as individuals. Progress, creativity, and change all come from people who are willing to think differently and voice their opinions despite the risk. While fear of others’ opinions may be natural, letting that fear control us means losing pieces of ourselves in the process.

Maybe allodoxaphobia isn’t about eliminating the fear entirely — maybe it’s about learning when to listen, and when to speak anyway.

A high-stakes showdown where young broadcasters turn passion, pressure, and creativity into unforgettable radio.

The energy, pressure, and excitement of competition all come together when radio students step into the IASB arena. For these students, IASB isn’t just about trophies or titles, its a chance to put their voices, creativity, and technical skills to the test against some of the best young broadcasters in the state. From live announcing to production and storytelling, each competition reflects countless hours of practice, teamwork, and passion for radio. As they take the mic and go head-to-head with other schools, these students aren’t just competing, they’re building confidence, gaining real-world experience, and proving that the future of broadcast is in good hands.

Behind the scenes, the work is just as intense as what’s heard on air. Long before competition day, students spend hours writing scripts, perfecting timing, editing audio, and troubleshooting equipment. They practice takes over and over, give each other honest feedback, an learn how to adapt when things don’t go as planned. Late rehearsals, early mornings, and constant collaboration are all part of the process. While the audience hears only the final product, it’s the dedication, problem-solving, and teamwork behind the scenes that truly make these IASB performances possible.

Beyond the technical skills, IASB pushes students to to grow ing ways that can’t be measured by scores alone. Competing teaches then how to handle pressure, communicate clearly, and trust themselves and their teammates in high-stakes moments. Win or lose, each experience helps students discover their strengths, learn from their mistakes, and leave the competition more prepared for future careers in radio, media, and beyond.

Most importantly, IASB creates a sense of pride and community within the radio program. Students represent not only themselves, but their school, their station, ad the countless hours of work invested by classmates and advisors. Te support from peers, instructors, and supporters fuels their confidence and reminds them that every broadcast, practice session, and competition is part of something bigger. Together, they celebrate the journey, the growth, and the shared passion for radio that brings them to the mic.

As the competition comes to a close, students carry more than just memories back to the studio. They return with renewed motivation, fresh ideas, and a deeper appreciation for the craft of radio. The lessons learned at IASB continue to shape their work long after the event ends, influencing future broadcasts and inspiring the next group of students to step up, speak out, and take their place behind the mic.

Ultimately, IASB serves as a reminder of why students fell in love with radio in the first place. It highlights the power of storytelling, the impact of a well-timed voice, and the connections built through shared creativity. Each competition experience reinforced that radio is more then sound, its a platform for expression, teamwork, and growth that will continue to guide these students wherever their paths lead, shaping confidence, leadership, and a lasting passion for broadcasting and communication in the real world while inspiring future broadcasters to chase their voices boldly where ever they go.

2026 is the year for movies. After winning 7 Oscars for Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan is back to create a film based on the best-selling book, The Odyssey. Big-budget adaptations of legendary stories don’t happen very often, and when they do, they can be incredible if done right. The cast is stacked and the vision is crazy, but no one can do it except for Christopher Nolan. The Odyssey looks like the kind of movie that’s meant to be seen on the biggest screen possible. I’m calling it now, The Odyssey will win, if not more, close to 7 Oscars next year.

3. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to take Peter Parker in a new direction after everything that happened in the last trilogy. Details are still pretty limited, but the title alone suggests a reset of sorts. Spider-Man movies have always been fan favorites especially with Tom Holland still in the lead role. This movie has a lot of potential to redefine the character for a new era.

4. After how visually stunning and intense the first two films were, it’s hard not to trust Denis Villeneuve to stick the landing. The Dune movies have proven that sci-fi can be smart, emotional, and epic all at once. If this film is just as good as the last two, the trilogy might go down as one of the greatest of all time. Even though it might not be for everyone, this is one of the most important releases of the year.

5. After the massive success of The Super Mario Bros Movie, Nintendo is back to continue expanding its cinematic universe. Galaxy is one of the most beloved Mario games ever, and bringing that creative, space-themed world to the big screen has a ton of potential. Releasing the earliest out of these five movies, I will definitely be going to see this in theaters. With Chris Pratt and Jack Black both back in their lead roles, I bet this movie will kick off the year strong.

https://www.wpsrhd.com/blogs/station-blogs/post/2026-ford-mustang-colors-adriatic-blue-metallic-and-orange-fury-make-a-bold-return/
2026 Ford Mustang Colors: Adriatic Blue Metallic and Orange Fury Make a Bold Return
2026-01-07T19:22:00+00:00
Purebred power, available in 11 aggressive and thrilling paint options. This bold, race-ready orange originally appeared during the S550 Mustang generation, offered briefly from 2018 to 2019. Despite being popular with enthusiasts—especially those looking for a vibrant, aggressive look—it was removed from Ford’s color lineup after only two years.

Orange Fury even made appearances on high-performance Mustangs, including versions of the Shelby GT350, making its disappearance all the more puzzling. Ford has long excelled with blue paint options, and Adriatic Blue may be one of its best yet.

What truly sets Adriatic Blue apart is its history. Now's your chance to get a taste of FULL CIRCLE BOYS who just recently had an interview with a few of our staff members. There, we learned about who they are and the story behind their amazing music!

This past Tuesday, a few members of the 90.7 WPSR student staff and I had the incredible opportunity to sit down with the rising boy band FULL CIRCLE BOYS. The group—made up of Jagger Moon, James Herron, Sean Garrity, Dossan Bell, and Ollie Hincy—gave us an inside look at their origin story, their creative process, their music videos, their goals, and the friendship that fuels everything they do.

The band officially formed in 2021, but their roots go back much further. Each member grew up dancing, and some were already performing together long before the group existed. “Me, Dossan, and Ollie grew up in the same dance studio. Then Sean and James grew up in the same dance studio,” Jagger shared during the interview. From the very beginning, their shared passion for dance created a natural bond. When Jagger later connected with Sean through a dance opportunity, the pieces fell into place—and the FULL CIRCLE BOYS were born. With more than 11 years of friendship behind them, they’ve now expanded their talents beyond dance and are making a strong entrance into the music industry.

One of their early releases, “Call My Name,” was soon followed by “Me and You,” and the momentum hasn’t slowed since. Each new track grabs thousands of YouTube views and streams. In June of this year, the band dropped their six-track EP Jeté, quickly followed by another EP, PLIÉ released just last month.

Their dance background gives the FULL CIRCLE BOYS a distinct artistic identity. When asked what sets them apart from other boy bands, Ollie explained, “For starters, we just put out a music video that is fully contemporary dance. We really want to use our dance background and showcase that.” Sean added that being an independent group has given them rare creative freedom: “No label has told us, ‘This is the kind of music you’re going to make.’ Other bands haven’t been afforded that opportunity.”

A standout example of that creativity is their track “8 BALL,” featured on PLIÉ. After its release, the band created a contemporary dance video choreographed by Mari Madrid. The result is a striking blend of movement and emotion that highlights exactly who they are as artists.

They’ve got the music. They’ve got the chemistry. So what’s next? FULL CIRCLE BOYS are only getting started. They hope to continue releasing music, reaching new audiences, performing live, and making waves in the industry. With several performances already behind them, their sights are set on opening for major artists such as Tate McRae and Ed Sheeran.

Don’t miss your chance to support a boy band on the edge of something big. Follow FULL CIRCLE BOYS on all social platforms and stream their music on any major streaming service. Here at 90.7 WPSR—Evansville’s Real Variety—we know how much our listeners love a great competition, especially when it’s filled with glitz, glamour, and a whole lot of dancing! That’s right, we’re talking about the latest season of Dancing with the Stars. If you’re anything like us, you’re still buzzing from last weeks finale.

Let’s talk about the real star of the show—Alix. From the very first week, Alix brought charisma, heart, and some serious moves to the dance floor. Whether it was a sultry tango or a high-energy jive, every routine was packed with passion and personality. Week after week, she showed incredible growth, not just as a dancer, but as an entertainer who really connected with the audience.

Yet, despite her stellar performances and crowd-pleasing routines, Alix didn’t take home the mirrorball trophy. That’s left a lot of us feeling a little disappointed, but it’s also a great reminder of how subjective these competitions can be. Sometimes, the most deserving contestant doesn’t hear their name called at the end—but that doesn’t take away from everything they accomplished.

Here at WPSR, we want to give Alix a huge shoutout. You inspired so many fans—right here in Evansville and beyond! You reminded us all that hard work, determination, and staying true to yourself are what really matter. The journey is just as important as the destination, and you made every step count.

To all our listeners feeling let down by the results, remember: celebrate the joy, the music, and the unforgettable moments. And if you’re already missing your weekly dose of dance, don’t worry—just tune in to 90.7 WPSR. We’ll keep the real variety coming, with the best hits to get you up and moving, just like Alix.

Thank you for dancing through the season with us. From the dark, jagged isolation of the Grinch’s cave to the glowing comfort of Whoville, every shot is designed to make you feel something. It’s not just a Christmas story—it’s a cinematic journey from bitterness to belonging.

Every December, without fail, *How the Grinch Stole Christmas* sneaks its way back into my life. And every year I’m surprised by the same thing: a green, furry creature with commitment issues and an unhealthy relationship with canned who-hash still manages to make me feel something.

But that’s the magic of this movie.
It doesn’t just tell a Christmas story—it *engineers* an emotional journey using cinematography, color, performance, and atmosphere in a way that most holiday films don’t even attempt.

Let’s break down how this film plays with our emotions so effectively, and why its filmmaking choices are much smarter than you might remember.

Before the movie even tries to make us like the Grinch, it wants us to *feel* his world. The movie opens with jagged edges, muted greens, and shadowy lighting inside his cave. It’s uncomfortable, cramped, and visually “wrong” in a way that instantly communicates isolation.

The filmmakers use:

* tight, claustrophobic shots
* harsh lighting
* shaky camera movements
to make us feel the Grinch’s emotional reality—loneliness, bitterness, and rejection.

He’s not just grumpy.
He’s *hurting*.
And the shots make sure we feel it long before the script says it.

Whoville vs. the Cave: A Tale of Two Color Palettes

When we finally see Whoville, it’s like stepping into another universe. Vibrant reds, glowing lights, swirling decorations—everything is warm and inviting. The contrast is the point.

Whoville feels alive.
The cave feels empty.

The filmmakers essentially create an emotional push-and-pull:

* Whoville = joy, belonging, community
* Grinch’s cave = isolation, resentment, self-protection

So even when the Grinch is being chaotic and hilarious, there’s a part of us quietly rooting for him to join the world he’s been hiding from.

Cindy Lou Who: The Heart of the Movie (Literally)

If the Grinch is the emotional core, Cindy Lou Who is the spark that lights it back up. Every time she appears, the film softens:

* brighter lights
* gentle music
* slow, steady camera movements

She’s the emotional “reset button.”
Where the Grinch is chaos, Cindy is calm.
Where the Grinch is defensiveness, Cindy is compassion.

Her scenes are filmed like little pockets of peace—moments where the movie lets you breathe.

Jim Carrey: A One-Man Special Effect

Let’s be honest: Jim Carrey *is* the movie.
His physical comedy, rubber-face expressions, and chaotic energy fill every frame.

But what’s genius is how the filmmakers support that performance:

* Dutch angles (tilted shots) emphasize how off-balance he is
* fast zooms and jump cuts mirror his manic personality
* exaggerated set pieces give him space to go full Grinch mode

The *style* of the film matches the *state of his mind*.

We laugh, but we also feel a strange attachment to him because his emotional extremes are filmed like a rollercoaster and we’re strapped in right next to him.

The Emotional Climax: Why It Works

When the Whos gather and sing despite losing their presents, the movie slows down. The camera gently pushes in on the Grinch, the lighting warms, the music swells, and everything becomes still for the first time.

It’s a cinematic sigh.

This is the moment the movie wants us to feel something real—not just laugh at the Grinch, but *relate* to him:

* the fear of being left out
* the desire for connection
* the realization that belonging is a choice

When his heart grows three sizes, it’s cheesy, sure—but it’s also emotionally earned.

So Why Does *The Grinch* Make Us Feel So Much?

Because the film doesn’t just tell a story; it uses every tool available to *engineer emotion*:

* color to create contrast
* lighting to shape tone
* camera movement to guide feeling
* music to soften or intensify a moment
* performance to hold it all together

It’s a movie that’s secretly about loneliness, healing, and the terrifying vulnerability of letting people back in.

Underneath the jokes, the chaos, and the over-the-top Whoville designs, the movie works because it understands a simple truth:

Everyone has felt like the Grinch at some point.
And everyone wants to have a “heart-grows-three-sizes” moment of their own.

If you want, I can also turn this into:

* a school essay
* a more personal/emotional blog entry
* a YouTube-style script
* a more humorous or sarcastic take
Just tell me the vibe you want!
