If you’ve been on any type of social media lately, you know what I mean by oversharing has consumed the internet. What happened to stranger danger? Why do I know where a random person on TikTok has yoga class every Tuesday and Thursday? Why is your first, middle, and last name on Instagram? 

Then again, I am just as guilty as the next person. It’s fun to overshare!

I love posting casually and putting my entire personality on the internet. It’s always nice to update your friends and family on what’s going on in your life. It doesn’t shock me at all when someone posts that they’re on a walk in their neighborhood, so why would it alarm anyone if I posted something similar? 

But it isn’t normal for your whole life to be accessible to strangers. When you really think about it, it’s kinda weird. So, what makes the internet seem so safe to be posting your entire day and whereabouts? It wasn’t like that 10 years ago, so why is it like that now?

Growing up, you were told that all accounts are suspicious and could be posing as someone else. But now, people do not care whatsoever about internet safety. Now, if you can’t find someone’s full address and mother’s hometown, you’re hiding something. 

There’s been a sense of trust that’s grown on the internet over the years. It’s not weird at all to have your school name in your public bio. In fact, it’s better that way. So I can know who you know and if we might’ve crossed paths. It’s cool to get a preview of a person before you meet them. That’s just the way it is. If I’m gonna meet you and I know your full name, I’m looking you up everywhere. I watch a trailer before committing to a full 2 hour movie, so why shouldn’t I preview a potential friendship? 

At the end of the day, it comes down to the person. Whether you’re an open book or a person whose walls are up so high, it rivals the Chinese landmark. As for me, you’ll find me stalking random people on @User32421342. Just kidding… or am I?

In conclusion, this isn’t even really a warning or me trying to make you paranoid, I just think it’s interesting. If you want to be more careful though, maybe you should. After all, I am online and I already know your sister’s dog’s birthday.

Leaves are falling and my fall playlist is on REPEAT! Everyone talks about how Christmas has the best music, -- and rightfully so! -- but we need to stop ignoring Fall music. Nat King Cole didn’t put his entire heart and soul into Tis’ Autumn for nothing. If you don’t know what I’m talking about or where to start, you’re in luck because I’m about to give you my own personal Fall playlist. Straight from the Lil Papa Vault. 

Of course, we’re off strong with Tis’ Autumn by Nat King Cole. Personally, as soon as the first leaf drops, you better believe I’m playing this song. I really do love Nat King Cole. His tone is so good and every song he makes is musically a masterpiece. As much as people say that the Christmas season defrosts with Mariah Carey, I honestly believe it starts with Nat King Cole in Autumn.

Next, I Love You for All Seasons by The Fuzz. Is this song applicable for every season? Yes! But it’s giving Fall more than anything. Don’t kill me but I feel like Fall is more romantic than February… Valentine’s Day was put in the wrong season in my opinion!

Of course, Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer. Come on. Keeping the same theme from the last song, love is in the airrrr! It’s romcom season, and everyone knows that Fall is the best time to get yourself a “boo.” Pumpkin patch dates and coffee dates in the fall, making cookies and watching movies by Christmas, then you have someone to post on Valentine’s Day. Kiss Me is such a playful love song, but it’s still so cute and honestly just the perfect song to “fall” in love.

Georgia On My Mind by Ray Charles. Definitely not meant to be a Fall song, but the vibeeeee okay! Puts me right in the pumpkin spice mood. So perfect for a walk or a road-trip. Fall is really meant for these old, jazzy, slow songs. Which brings me to our next song!

Next is At Last by Etta James, my queen! I really do love her voice and range so much. She’s so smooth. I’ve been listening to her for forever and I still can’t get over how good she is. Really, you could add Stormy Weather or A Sunday Kind of Love to this list too, but I feel like At Last is more fitting for the season.
 

Did you really think I was going to get this far without Taylor Swift? This whole list would be pointless without cardigan. Of course, we can’t forget the Swiftie Fall classic. It’s the Rory Gilmore, dark academia, pinterest board anthem for Fall. 

I can’t forget my favorite singer, Laufey. Her discography is so beautiful and so fall-coded, but I have to say, her Night At The Symphony album realllllyyy gets this season. The Nearness of You and Every Time We Say Goodbye is the perfect duo to listen to from this album. I maaayyy be biased but Let You Break My Heart Again from her EP, The Reykjavik Sessions, is one of my favorite versions of this record. So, so good. There’s something so personal and raw about this session. Is it Fall? Yes. To me. 

Speaking of newer singers, I’ll get into my Fall feelings with Something About Her by Stephen Sanchez. I’m back to those classic voices! If you haven’t listened to Stephen Sanchez, I honestly don’t know what you’re doing. His voice really is so nice and a blast from the past. I’m such a big fan of that old ballad style, maybe I’m just biased but I feel like his sound is perfect! I would also recommend No One Knows, his collaboration with Laufey.

 I take my music very seriously. I don’t know if you can tell, but I used to be on K-Pop Twitter.

Olivia Rodrigo’s long awaited sophomore album, Guts, was finally released earlier this week and fans everywhere are going crazy! It’s been 2 years since her debut album Sour was released and became an instant hit and personal favorite of mine.

I always felt like I couldn’t really relate to Taylor Swift or any other teen idol, But when Olivia Rodrigo debuted her music career, I finally found my pop star. She’s able to convey the unseen struggles that I can identify with, so she’s extremely special to me. And really, I think Olivia Rodrigo just makes universally relatable music. With lyrics like, “I can’t even parallel park” and “I think I think too much about kids who don’t know me”, she’s speaking for millions of teenagers around the world.

Every fan of hers knows the pain of the “Olivia drought.” For 2 years, there was no new music from her. Her first album was written and produced when she was 18, and now she’s finally back at 20 years old. Guts has 12 new songs and each one has its own unique personality. Through her music, you can tell that she’s grown so much while still going through the hardships of girlhood. And as a diehard fan of Olivia Rodrigo, here’s my personal top 5 favorite songs from Guts.

1. Vampire

I honestly love this song with all my whole heart. Her performance in this song is so good. From the vocals (background and main), to the 3 tempo switches, and lyrics, this song was a game changer. Olivia released it before the rest of the album, giving us a taste of what the rest of the album would be like. It’s so beautiful in the beginning, and by the end it’s something new all together, but it still keeps the same message. I think that translates in the transition from Sour to Guts. Her new album is different from the last, but it still has the same heart that she had from the beginning. 

2. Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl

It’s honestly a little embarrassing how much I relate to this song, but the undertones of this album is the feeling of embarrassment anyways so it’s fitting. The way that social anxiety is portrayed in this song through the instrumentals, getting louder and faster as the song goes on, is so good.

3. All-American

What. A. Song. It encapsulates exactly what people expect from American women specifically. I could deep-dive into this song and what it means as a commentary on society, but I would literally be writing an entirely different blog by the end of it. I love her scream at the bridge too. It’s so clean and I saw some people hating on it, but I feel like it goes so well with the song.

4. Get Him Back!

The style of this song is so 2010’s and I’m living for it. I’m in love with the double meaning and the whole vibe of this song. Every song in this album is so good, -076 but this one stands out to me. Her music video is so good too. I’m in love. 

5. Love is Embarrassing

The drums and guitar are my favorite parts of this song, it brings out her voice and the tone of this song so well. She portrays the teenage experience so well and this song is just another example of her incredible talent and skill.

I’m just so glad that Olivia’s back again with new music! She absolutely blew me away and I’m so excited for her projects in the future.
